Dear Friends,
It has been an exciting few months since my last newsletter. The main
events being the trip to El Salvador and Nicaragua followed by the United
States.
Once again in El Salvador we were given a police escort
because of the danger from Drug Gangs. When I spoke to
one of the eight fully
armed police
whether this escort
was necessary, he
said that they
counted it a
privilege to serve
and protect us, but
if they were not
with us some bad
men would certainly
be around. The attraction for the “bad
men” would be, of course, the medicines that we had available to give to the
people as we shared the Gospel with them. They were God’s provision, but
even they were not allowed to accompany us to one area we worked - we
thank God for his protection. We saw many children respond to the Gospel,
such as Danny who was excited to receive a Bible. At the end of the mission,
it was encouraging that our work was appreciated by a senior member of the
Government.
After the main team left to go back to the States a small team of us flew to Nicaragua to work with
some local dentists and doctors in the Leone area
holding clinics and outreaches. The pattern that
emerged for me was that when we arrived I would go
around the community with a translator and Mickey
inviting the children to come to the meetings. It was
always encouraging as the numbers of children who
came were between 50 and 100. On the final day we
had nearly 200
children. It was of
course a privilege to
share the good
news of Christ’s death and resurrection, with numbers of them
praying to receive Him in their lives.
After Nicaragua I flew to the United States to renew contact
with a family I use to work with in Wales. In fact it was 50
years ago I taught my friend Phil in Sunday School in Wrexham.
So it was good to spend some time with them in the balminess
of Florida before flying to the frigidness of Minnesota.
However, the friends I renewed fellowship with there were very
warmly welcoming and I was able to speak at one
of the churches. Then for Christmas to Alabama,
sharing Christmas with about 50 others including
a number of children who I was able to share the
Gospel with Mickey. It was also good to play
Volleyball on Christmas morning. During the time
in Alabama I was able to speak in various meetings having trips to
Georgia and Tuscaloosa where we held a day camp for children from the
Chinese community. The final part of the States was a trip to Tennessee
for a conference, which was excellent. I nearly forgot to mention that
whilst in Alabama friends that I was staying with organised a very special
event for a birthday that years ago I never thought would happen. Yes, it was my 70th - hard to
believe. I must record my gratitude and thanks to those who
organised it and celebrated the time with me. I would also
like to thank those who showed me such hospitality and
friendship over the whole trip.
Items for Prayer
Now once gain I am about to set
off again this time to Kenya
from the 8th April to the 1st
May. I will be involved in a youth
conference and various other meetings and of necessity I would value
your prayers which I cannot state enough because the covering that they
provide is so important.
Upon coming back, I will be going to Mannafields camp in May. Then at
the beginning of June a conference in Spain.
The summer this year is looking a bit uncertain. Provisionally plans have been made for Russia but
there is an element of uncertainty. So, at the moment praying and looking to the Lord for his
guidance for the Summer work. I will let you know and up to date information will be on my
Facebook page.
So, thank you for all your prayers and support and I wish you a Blessed Easter season and may you
experience and enjoy the reality of Christ’s glorious resurrection.
Mike
